Salary benchmarking cost: what teams actually pay
Salary benchmarking costs $5,000 to $30,000 a year for compensation surveys and $10,000 to $25,000 or more for enterprise platforms. Wagelist plans self-serve pricing from $99 per month at launch, built for teams under 200 employees.
Early access. Pricing shown is planned launch pricing; early-access members lock in launch discounts.

Salary benchmarking cost across the market
Category-level facts, so you can sanity-check any quote you receive. See our honest Payscale alternative comparison for the detailed breakdown, or read how compensation software pricing is put together before you take a call.
| Option | Typical cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Survey vendors (Mercer, Radford) | $5k to $30k / survey / yr | Static PDF or spreadsheet, stale on arrival, no tooling |
| Enterprise platforms (Payscale) | $12k to $65k / yr, avg $15,893 | Full comp suite, annual contract, sales-led procurement |
| Pave | Benchmarking tied to HRIS data-sharing; paid suite | Venture-tech benchmarks, value gated behind connecting your HRIS |
| Wagelist (planned) | From $99 / mo | Self-serve bands and posted ranges, published methodology, no HRIS hookup |
Payscale and Pave figures are observed contract values reported by third-party software marketplaces in July 2026, not vendor list prices, since almost nobody in this category publishes one. We broke the whole field down, including where each vendor beats us, in our comparison of the best compensation management software.
Three fair objections, answered
01 Why would I pay when BLS data is public?
The raw data is public; the work is not. Wagelist maps roles to occupations, applies documented market, seniority and stage adjustments, keeps bands consistent across your whole org, and produces posting-ready ranges. That is hours per role done in seconds, with a method you can show an auditor.
02 I only make a few offers a year. Is $99 worth it?
Starter exists for exactly this. One mispriced offer costs far more than a year of Wagelist: overpay by $10k and it compounds every year; underpay and you lose the candidate or the employee. 25 benchmarked roles covers most companies under 50 people.
03 Is this pricing final?
No, and we say so plainly: Wagelist is in early access and these are planned launch prices. They can move before launch. Early-access members lock in launch discounts, which is the honest reason to sign up now. More answers in the salary benchmarking FAQ.
